Obtaining underhooks

  • The knee level is one of the best ways to get an underhook

      • Apply the knee lever causing them to base out with their hand

        • Put outside foot so that your toes cross with your inside foot
        • Tighten your knees

  • Using a high knee shield
    • The high knee shield is where your knee is near the opponent’s armpit
    • You should back up the knee shield with a grip on their tricep

      • Have your hand near your knee and follow your leg as it punches through
      • Come up to an elbow with your other arm using the momentum of the movement

    • The low knee shield is when your knee is in the hip

      • Use a cross frame with the same side hand as your knee shield

Winning from the underhoook, tight waist series

  • About the position
    • A tight waist is where your underhooking hand goes around the opponents back to their far hip
    • The position is made stronger if you are able to come up to an elbow of a hand
    • The position allows you to easily switch between an inside hook and outside hook with your legs
      • The outside hook is usually preferred for the tight waist series

Roll through sweeps

      • Grab the opponent’s pants near the knee

The lower leg shift

  • When you are sweeping the opponent with a scoop sweep it is often beneficial to shift your lock on the opponents leg below their knee
    • Because you have a scoop sweep and the tight waist grip this is safe to do and does not put you in a compromised position

    • reverse shrimp to move your body under the opponent’s center of gravity
